India's Educator Detention Sparks Widespread Protests The arrest and detention of Sonam Chodon, a respected educator from Leh in Indian administered Kashmir, has ignited one of the largest waves of protests across India in years.
The 55 year old teacher was taken into custody on charges of allegedly "inciting anti government sentiments" among her students.
According to sources close to Chodon's family, she was accused of criticizing the government's handling of the disputed Kashmir territory during a lesson at school.
