The show's creator, Sterlin Harjo, has said he aims to humanize his characters while tackling the darker aspects of small town corruption.
Unlike other dramas, "The Lowdown" focuses on nuance rather than sensationalism. Protagonist Lee Raybon, played by Ethan Hawke, is not a crusading journalist but an amateur sleuth who uncovers rot in his community.
